Last month, Nishu Thukral, formerly Pangea’s chief operating officer, was appointed CEO and President of the company. He brings more than 15 years of experience in payments to this new role, and has played a huge role in Pangea’s launch and growth.

But it’s more than Nishu’s professional background that makes his role at Pangea Money Transfer so important to him. Read on to learn more about why Nishu “lives and breathes payments,” and his goals for the coming year to help make money transfer as convenient and affordable as possible.

Tell our blog readers a little about yourself.

NT: I was born in Iran to Indian parents, and have lived in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. I came to the United States for college and ended up staying. It’s been quite a journey to where I am today. As a result, I feel a close connection to our customers. The story of leaving home and coming to another country to study and work is a familiar one. I find myself extremely lucky to work with such a great team in building solutions and products that can impact so many in meaningful ways.

I live and breathe payments, but my family defines me. I’m a husband and proud father of three kids: 6-year-old and 3-year-old boys and a 9-month-old girl. The fun doesn’t end when I leave the office—it goes deep into the evening and starts early the next morning. A combination I wouldn’t do a thing to change!

When did you join Pangea, and what was the most exciting thing about the company to you?

NT: I joined Pangea in the summer of 2013. Having seen the complexity and opportunity in sending money to other countries firsthand growing up, I knew finding a better way could benefit millions of people.

How has Pangea changed and grown since you joined?

NT: When I joined, we were still in the concept phase. We had a rockstar team, we had a ton of great ideas, but no product—all things that you can expect from a very early stage in a company’s lifecycle. Now, fast-forward to where we are today. Helping tens of thousands of customers move millions of dollars across our platform has really been a gratifying journey to be a part of.

What’s one of your proudest accomplishments at Pangea?

NT: The day we launched is something I will not easily forget. After years of working on very complex problems, we were able to successfully launch an innovative product that we knew would impact the lives of millions.

In your new position as CEO, what are your main goals for the coming year?

NT: A continued dedication to our customers and adding value through innovation. When people think of Pangea, they should think of “simple, fair, and safe.” As a group, we will work tirelessly to advance our product to continue to positively impact people’s lives so more of their hard-earned money reaches their loved ones. In the coming year, we will continue to serve the Latin American countries and also scale our operation to include additional countries through continued invention and focus on the customer.

What do you think makes Pangea stand out from other money transfer services?

NT: Our dedication to our customers. We are a company that is made up of users of our service—we ourselves send money using our platform to our loved ones. We are dedicated to helping people who really are just like us. The understanding of the problem and the ability to build a solution that addresses pain points is unique. Our technology company is made up of many dedicated individuals working hard to reinvent the way money moves across borders—and we are proud of what we have built to date and excited about what is yet to come.

Nishu would also like it to be known:

NT: I am scary good at table tennis. Let’s please not call it ping-pong. The sport deserves some respect. If anyone thought seeing me in money transfer mode or family mode gave me joy, you must see me with a paddle in my hand. ????
